Trying to conceive is a freaking rollercoaster. One minute, you’re feeling hopeful, picturing tiny baby socks and imagining the moment you finally get your BFP (Big Fat Positive). The next day, you’re crying over a negative test, googling “Can you still be pregnant even if the test is negative at 12 DPO?” for the hundredth time.

I’ve been there. And let me tell you—TTC (Trying to conceive) is just as much an emotional journey as it is a physical one.

That’s why I started using positive affirmations.

Do Affirmations Really Work?

Okay, so let’s be real. Positive affirmations aren’t some magical spell that makes a baby appear in your uterus (if only, right?). But what they do is shift your mindset. And when you’re deep in the trenches of TTC, your mindset matters a lot.

When I was trying to conceive, I felt like my body was working against me. I was frustrated, anxious, and honestly, angry at the whole process. I think this attitude was hindering my ability to become pregnant and stay pregnant!

But when I started using affirmations, I slowly began to reframe my thoughts. Instead of, “My body is broken,” I started telling myself, “My body is capable of creating life.” Instead of saying, “This will never happen for me,” I repeated, “I am open and ready to receive my baby.”

It didn’t happen overnight, but affirmations helped me release stress, calm my mind, and trust my body.

And let’s be honest—when you’re TTC, anything that makes you feel even a little better is worth trying.

How to Use Fertility Affirmations

Doing this might seem odd if you’re new to affirmations, but don’t worry. You don’t have to stand in front of a mirror chanting like you’re in a self-help documentary (unless you want to, of course). Here are a few easy ways to make affirmations part of your daily routine:

  • Say them out loud every morning (yes, even if it feels weird at first!)
  • Write them in a journal before bed
  • Repeat them in your head during meditation or deep breathing
  • Put sticky notes on your mirror (or fridge, or bathroom wall—wherever you’ll see them!)
  • Use them during visualization (Picture yourself holding your baby while you say them)
  • While doing savasana after a yoga practice (I like to say them while lying on my Pranamat)
