Mother’s Day has always been special to me, but I’ll never forget how it felt the first time I celebrated it while pregnant.

There’s something incredibly powerful about realizing that even though your baby isn’t in your arms yet, you’re already a mother in every sense of the word.

As a mom of four and a labour and delivery nurse, I can tell you — becoming a mother starts long before birth. It’s the moment you find yourself dreaming about tiny hands, wondering what their laugh will sound like, and feeling those little kicks that change your whole world.

If you’re expecting this Mother’s Day, here are some meaningful ways you can celebrate and honour this beautiful new chapter in your life.

1. Write a Letter to Your Baby

Taking a few quiet minutes to write a letter to your baby bump can be incredibly special. Share your hopes, dreams, and everything you’re feeling right now. It’s a beautiful way to capture this moment in time — and it’s something you’ll cherish (and maybe even share with your child one day).

2. Treat Yourself to a “Mommy-to-Be” Gift

Whether it’s a comfy maternity robe, a prenatal massage, or a piece of jewelry with your baby’s birthstone, you deserve to be celebrated and pampered.
You’re doing the hard, beautiful work of growing new life, and you deserve to feel loved and pampered too!

Some sweet ideas:

  • A custom necklace with “mama” or baby’s initial

  • A pregnancy journal

  • A prenatal spa day or an at-home spa kit

3. Capture the Moment with a Bump Photo Shoot

You don’t have to wait for a full maternity session! Even a few simple photos at home — with flowers, a flowing dress, or your favourite cozy outfit — can capture this season beautifully.
One day, you’ll look back at these photos and remember exactly how it felt to be so full of love and anticipation.

4. Plan a Special Date (or Self-Date)

Celebrate with your partner or with yourself. Go out for a favourite meal, have a picnic at the park, or plan a cozy night in with all your pregnancy cravings.

How about a lovely pancake breakfast on Mother’s Day? Or anything else your heart desires!

This is a great chance to slow down, soak in the moment, and make memories before life gets even busier.

5. Start a New Tradition

Mother’s Day, while pregnant, is the perfect time to start a tradition you can continue once your baby arrives.
Some sweet ideas:

  • Plant a tree or flowers that will grow as your baby grows

  • Start a “Mother’s Day Memory Book” where you write a short letter to your child each year

  • Take a photo every Mother’s Day — bump this year, baby next!

6. Reflect on Your Journey

Pregnancy can be overwhelming sometimes, both physically, emotionally, and mentally.
Take a few quiet minutes this Mother’s Day to honour all the changes, challenges, and incredible moments you’ve experienced so far.

Journaling is a great way to let out those emotions, good and bad ones! And a great way to remember how you felt when going through it

You’re doing an amazing job, mama. Even on the days it doesn’t feel like it.

You’re Already a Mother

Whether you’re a few weeks pregnant or just weeks away from meeting your baby, you are already someone’s mom.
Your love, your care, your dreams for your child — they matter so much.

You deserve to be celebrated, honoured, and cherished this Mother’s Day.

I’m sending you so much love and wishing you a beautiful day full of joy, hope, and sweet anticipation.
